Tales from Ireland’s past in the shadow of the High Crosses. Children will be enthralled as our storytellers share Irish legends and fables. Bring a cushion and make yourself comfortable! Children of all ages are welcome to come to the museum and hear all about Setanta, the Children of Lir and a Little Lost Cat’s Big Adventure in Kilkenny. Story Time at the Cross is suitable for everyone and there is plenty of space for buggies.
Antique Toy Road Sunday 25th August 5.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.
Do you have an old toy or game at home that you want to know more about? Maybe you have a teddy, doll or some sports gear with an interesting past? On Sunday 25th August between 5.30pm and 7.30 pm we want you to bring your old games and toys to the museum to share their stories and have them appraised by renowned auctioneer, George Mealy. There is no need to book, just bring your toys and your stories.
Tying in with the theme of this year’s Heritage Week – Pastimes/Past Times – and inspired by the beautiful toy soldier we have on display, we’re delighted to announce the Antique Toy Roadshow. We are encouraging everyone to come to the museum with the toys, games and sports gear they used in their childhood. Be prepared for a nostalgic trip down memory lane as we encourage people to share the stories of their treasured toys – whether a flea-bitten teddy or an antique dinky. For those who are willing, we may even ask for a loan of your toy to form part of an upcoming exhibition in the museum. We promise, we’ll look after them!
